National Trails Day

 

In celebration of National Trails Day, the Lewis County Public Library and Archives partnered with Ranger Jeremy Childs from the Natchez Trace Parkway for a family-friendly hike. Hikers learned about the Warsaw and St. Louis limestone that rests just below the Trace. Ranger Jeremy shared a fossilized Great White Shark Tooth, a bivalve shell, a crinoid (or sea lily), and coral that he found along the Natchez Trace. Along the hike, Ranger Childs pointed out plants to avoid, like poison ivy, plants to keep like hookweed and sassafras, and showed the areas that had been worn down by the number...
