Elephant Sanctuary visits Lewis Library Summer Reading program

Lewis County Public Library and Archives hosted the Elephant Sanctuary on June 24th for Elephant Watersports. At this event, participants learned what it was like to be an elephant. To practice moving water like elephants, attendees held an Elephant Water Relay where they used leaky buckets to move water along the line to fill each team's container first. The Elephant Trunk Race allowed participants to experience what it is like using a trunk when they had to carry a ping pong ball with long-reach grabbers and weave between trees without dropping the ball, because elephants only have two fingers in their trunks to hold items in the wild. To experience an elephant's favorite way to cool off, attendees dug in the watery sand to find hidden clues to play Elephant Wordle. Lastly, everyone had the chance to walk a "mile" in an elephant's shoes during the Elephant Stomp Obstacle Course. Thank you to everyone from the Elephant Sanctuary for a wonderful program.

The library's next family event is the Community Concert featuring the Cleverys on the City Parking Lot. Family fun including water slides, face painting, food trucks and more will begin at 5 PM and the concert will begin at 7 p.m.. Bring a lawn chair.
