One Day at a Time
July 14, 2022
Well it is a beautiful morning here in our little valley. I am on the front porch swing and a little breeze is blowing, but it is going to be another hot day. The cats have had their breakfast and have gone to find a cool place. I think I told you all week before last about one of the cats was really sick. We prayed for her and other folks prayed for her too, well she is much better and is almost back to normal. Bob keeps plenty of fresh water out for them, he babysat her when she was so sick.
This has been a hot and humid summer, but this year is over half gone, and I am looking forward to fall. September to me is the beginning of fall, only another month and a half to go.
It sure is quiet here this morning, there are no birds singing or any kind of sounds, you just hear a little breeze blowing every once in a while.
We have gotten some much needed rain, we had some loud thunder, bad lightning and high winds. The creek here at the back of our house had almost run dry, but now it has a little water running in it, it’s muddy water but at least the animals can have a drink of water.
I looked out the other morning after the storm and under the old apple tree there were lots of apples on the ground. I quickly got my bucket and went to pick them up and the squirrels were already busy getting the apples, but I did get a few apples, I made some more apple pie filling. We went later on to pick the blueberries and they are almost gone, but I did get enough of them to make some more juice and a few jars of jam, not as much as I wanted but a little is better than none. I don’t like to see anything thing go to waste.
I have gotten me up some tomatoes, onions and bell peppers so I will be making my homemade salsa real soon. I have already chopped everything up and froze it so when I have some time I will make a few jars of it.
I went to the grocery store a few days ago and some things had stayed the same prices from the last time. Of course some things had also gone up but not much though, if you all are like me every little bit I can save helps.
My clothes have finished washing so I will get them out on the line to dry and then I am going to cook dinner before it gets really hot. I have already got my tea made and I have put the beans on to cook. On these hot days I try to do as much as I can early in the day, and when I cook I always cook enough for a couple of days and then we can just warm up a plate. It keeps from warming up the house every day, and also I do keep my windows covered because it sure helps a lot to keep out the heat. When we were growing up, we kept quilts over our windows in the summertime to keep out the heat and in the wintertime to keep out the cold, we may have to go back to some of our old ways, with the high electric bills in the summer and the high gas heating bills in the winter. But I think we can all do what we have to.
I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.
God bless
