One Day at a Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 67

September 8, 2022

Well it is a cool and cloudy morning here in our little valley, we had some rain last night and this morning everything is wet but it sure is nice. It is beginning to look and feel like fall. My coffee sure is extra good this morning. The cats are curled up here on the front porch and taking a nap. I have got a load of laundry in the washing machine but I will not be able to hang them out on the line today because of the rain.

Hey you all guess what, Bob washed breakfast dishes this morning. He is doing so much better. Thanks again for all your prayers. Thank you Trent and all the girls at physical therapy and God bless Dr. Kamal, we love all of you!

My sister opened her little shop and I got to talk to a lot of people that said they read my story every week, one lady said she buys a paper just so she can read my story and some people said I always make them hungry when I talk about fixing my beans and cornbread, well Faye, today we are having beans and cornbread and fried potatoes.

I am going to have a busy day, our son in law Rick got me those pears that I wrote about, I have got some five gallon buckets of pears waiting on me, so today I will be making pear preserves. Bob loves them on his biscuits for breakfast, I am kind of beginning to think he likes eating homemade biscuits with any kind of jams, jellies or preserves on them.

I sure am enjoying this cool morning and I am wondering what kind of winter we are going to have. I am hoping we can get our winters wood in before long. Bobby will soon start working on getting this old wood heating stove ready for the winter. I talked to some people the other day and they said they have been doing some early Christmas shopping.

We have been seeing several loads of hay, people are getting it in while the sun shines. I have talked to a lot of people and they are canning and stocking up for winter, I think those are some smart people. Recently I canned a few jars of vegetable soup and that is really good with a pan of cornbread. It sure is nice on a cold and snowy winters day to open up a jar of canned goods and they taste just like it came right out of the garden.

My washing machine just cut off and I have got to get those clothes out and into the dryer. I would rather hang them out on the clothesline but more rain is on the way. Using that clothes dryer sure makes the electric bill go up, and here lately the electric bill seems like it has been doubling and we have been cutting back everywhere we can, we probable do not use half the electricity we used to but our bills just get higher and higher.

I have got to start peeling those pears. I have got a busy day ahead but you all know me I love it. It is beginning to sprinkle rain, I guess it has set in for the day. The squirrels are busy going up and down that old tree here in the yard, they don’t seem to mind a little rain, I guess they know they have a job to do to stock up for the winter and they are not going to stop until they get it done.

I am going to enjoy this day and I am not going to worry about tomorrow, I am going to take one day at a time because I know God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless
