The Lewis County Lady Panther volleyball team opened up their 2022 season on the road at Summertown on Tuesday, August 16th for junior varsity and varsity play.

Summertown's junior varsity took control of the opening set from the first rotation as the two JV teams began play for the afternoon. Consecutive 6-point runs set up the Lady Eagle JV with a 14-2 lead and they cruised to win the first set 25-6. The second set mirrored the opening set as Summertown continued to dominate service points and again pulled away to a 25-12 set win and 2-0 junior varsity match win.

The Lady Panther varsity ran into the same pace of game as their junior varsity girls did as Summertown, one of the top volleyball teams in the mid-state, was able to break service consistently and built a 15-5 lead into the fourth rotation. Lewis County scrapped the entire set, but the Lady Eagles pulled away to a 25-12 win in the opening set. The break did not cool off the home team, as Summertown used early point runs to build up a 13-3 lead in the early rotations. Lewis County was able to put together a couple of short runs of their own but fell in the second set 25-13.

In the third and what would be final set of varsity play Lewis County kept things closer in the opening rotations. But, as play moved on, Summertown continued to show their dominance and took the third set 25-10 and the match 3-0.

The Lewis County Lady Panther volleyball team travelled to Linden to take on the Perry County Lady Vikings on Thursday, August 18th.

In the junior varsity match, the Lady Panther JV fell behind in the opening set as Perry County had a 6-point run in the third rotation and builta lead until the end, winning the first set of JV 25-16. The Lady panther JV bounced back, able to break serves and using a couple of 5-point runs to claim the lead in the second set on their way to a 25-18 win to tie the match at 1. In the third set of JV play the Lady Panther JV stayed hot, limiting service points for the Lady Vikings and taking a lead on the fourth rotation 9-5 on their way to the set win 15-11, winning the match 2-1.

In varsity play the Lady Panthers were solid early against the Lady Viking serve but struggled to keep service on their side. With the opening set tied at 9, the Lady Panthers hit a point streak of 5 and built on that on their way to a 25-16 win. Perry County regrouped in the break and started the second varsity set on a 4-0 run. Lewis County would tie the set at 8 midway through, but Perry County would continue to attack. The Lady Vikings took the second set 25-20 to tie the match at 1. Lewis County rebounded in the third set, with 2 5-poit streaks in the first three rotations. As Perry County tried to even the match up late, Lewis County found their stride and took the third set 25-17. In what would be the final set of varsity play, the Lady Panthers built a 9-4 lead after four rotations and pulled away to take a 25-17 set win and take the match 3-1.

The Lewis County Lady Panther volleyball squad traveled to Columbia for the K.D. Hope Classic at Columbia Central High School on Saturday, August 20th. Lewis County would match up with Columbia Academy, Mount Pleasant, and Zion Christian over the weekend.

In their first action in the K.D. Hope Classic, the Lady Panthers played the Columbia Academy Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs struck early, on a 5-point run to start play to take a 6-1 lead. Lewis County never found their footing in the opening set and the Lady Bulldogs pulled away to a 25-12 win. After the break, the Lady Panthers found momentum. After two service breaks, the Lady Panthers were able to briefly take a lead at 8-6. Columbia Academy rallied back, using a pair of 5-point runs to secure the lead and continued to break the Lady Panther service on their way to a 25-16 win and a match win 2-0.

The Lady Panthers would play their next game in the K.D. Hope Classic against the Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers. The opening set was a dogfight as each team countered with short runs after breaking service. Five rotations in saw the game tied at 13. Lewis County took a lead at 15-13, but Mount Pleasant came back to take the lead at 18-15 and continued on to take the first set 25-19. The Lady Tigers would take an early lead at 4-1 in the second set and Lewis County would struggle to gain any ground, falling behind 11-7 after four rotations. The Lady Tigers would continue their run late in the second set to pull away from the Lady Panthers on their way to second set win 25-15 and take the match by a score of 2-0.

In the final matchup for Lewis County in the K.D. Hope Classic they faced the Zion Christian Academy Lady Eagles. Zion Christian took the lead early at 3-1, and Lewis County recovered to take a 9-7 lead after the fourth rotation. Zion would again reclaim the lead two rotations later at 13-12. The first set would continue to go back and forth until Zion claimed the lead late at 22-21 and went on to take the opening set 25-22. The break provided an opportunity for the Lady Panthers to regroup, and they responded by taking an early 5-2 lead. Lewis County continued to hold on to the lead as they broke service in three-straight rotations to pull out to an 11-5 lead. Zion was able to close the gap midway through the second set, but Lewis County continued to play efficiently and took the second set by a score of 25-19. In the third and final set of play, Zion took an early lead at 7-4 after four rotations and continued to keep distance between themselves and the Lady Panthers. Zion would finish things off in the third set on a 4-point run to take the set win 25-19 and the match 2-1.

The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers returned to action on Thursday, August 25th as they hosted the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers in varsity action.

After exchanging serves in the first few rotations, Mt. Pleasant jumped out to a 9-5 lead after the fourth rotation. Lewis County battled back to tighten the set up at 13-13 after the eighth rotation,but Mt. Pleasant began to slowly build a lead and held on for a 25-20 first set win. The Lady Tigers used a 7-point run in the second rotation of the second set to open up to an 8-2 lead. Lewis County would counter with service breaks and a 5-point run in the fourth rotation to tie the set at 13. The teams would play close for the rest of the second set as the score was tied at 24,sending the set to extra points. Lewis County would secure the final two points of the set and take the second set 26-24. Mt. Pleasant ran off seven straight points in the third set after breaking Lewis County's serve. This early 8-0 lead was enough to propel the Lady Tigers on to take the third set of play 25-18. In what would be the final set of play, the fourth set started with the Lady Tigers scoring 8 points on the opening rotation. By the end of the third rotation Mt. Pleasant had pulled away to a 12-5 lead and added to their lead with an 8-point run in the fourth rotation to go up 20-6. Mt. Pleasant would put the game away in the 8th rotation, winning the fourth set 25-14 and the match 3-1.

The Lewis County High School Lady Panther volleyball team hosted the Hampshire Lady Hawks on Tuesday night, August 30ttfor junior varsity and varsity matches.

In the first set of junior varsity play Hampshire held a 10-5 lead after the first six rotations. Lewis County was never able to recover from an early deficit and Hampshire took the opening set 25-11. The Lady Panthers regrouped in the break and, with the match tied at 20 into the eighth rotation, took a late lead and the second set 25-22. The third set of junior varsity was a back-and-forth set that saw the score tie at 15 in the sixth rotation and went to extra points, where Lewis County pulled out the win 17-15 and the match 2-1.

In varsity play the Lady Panthers fell behind 12-2 after two rotations and saw the Lady Hawks pull away to a 25-11 first set win. The Lady Panthers continued to struggle to maintain service in the second set as Hampshire again built a double-digit lead in the fifth rotation. Lewis County clawed back, finding service breaks and point streaks to get them to within 3 at 23-21, but Hampshire kept the home team at bay and took the second set 25-22 as Hampshire took the match 2-0.
