Panthers defeat Eagles

The Lewis County High School Panthers returned home to face their first Region5-AA opponent of the season, the East Hickman Eagles, on Friday night, September 2nd.

The Panthers drove the ball down the field on the opening possession but a turnover inside the Eagle 10-yard line gave the Eagles possession.

The Panther offense would find its stride later in the first quarter and Brycen McDonald connected with Dyer Barnes on a 16-yard touchdown strike. Timothy Brown connected on the point after attempt as the Panthers took an 8-0 lead in the first.

The Panther defense would flex its muscle in the second quarter and the Panthers would open up the score. Dyer Barnes found the endzone with an 83-yard punt return in which he blew by the Eagle coverage. Brown's kick made it a 16-0 game.

Lincoln Brewer would add to the scoring with just over two minutes to play in the half on a 6-yard run and Brown added the point after to take the score to 21-0.

The Panthers would get one last possession in the first half with just under a minute on the clock. McDonald would find Barnes once again, this time from 7 yards out, for a touchdown and Brown's 4th point after of the half gave the Panthers a 28-0 lead at the half.

Lewis County would score again midway through the third quarter when Lincoln Brewer broke through the Eagle defense on an 11-yard run to score. Brown's kick was off target and the Panthers held a 34-0 lead.

The Panther defense would continue to keep the Eagles in check through three quarters.

Lewis County reserves took over in the fourth, and with about eight minutes to play in the fourth Lewis County's Kai Bosque broke free on a 20-yard touchdown run, and Browns PAT made it 41-0.

East Hickman would finally find the endzone with just under four minutes left in the game on a 5-yard run, and a point after made it 41-7, which would be the final score.

Brycen McDonald was 12-15 passing on the night for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kolt Skelton completed 2 of 4 passes for 14 yards. Dyer Barnes had 6 receptions for 84 yards, Bentley Kelsey caught 3 receptions for 6 yards, Chaz Sparkman 2 catches for 30 yards, Kai Bosque 1 catch for 12 yards, Malachi Bruce 1 catch for 12 yards, Malachi Bruce 1 catch for 9 yards, and Ethan Ray 1 catch for 5 yards. Lincoln Brewer led the Panthers in rushing with 10 carries for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns, Kai Bosque 5 carries for 21 yards and a touchdown, Chaz Sparkman 3 carries for 41 yards, Brycen McDonald 2 carries for 17 yards, and Spence Clark 1 carry for 5 yards.

Lincoln Brewer had 15 tackles and a fumble recovery for the Panther defense, Nathaniel Caamal had 9 tackles, Timothy Brown and Eli Carroll each had 5 tackles, Chaz Sparkman had 4 tackles and a fumble recovery, Lane Barnes and Kadin Shepherd 4 tackles each, Ethan Ray 3 tackles, Jaylen Murphy 2 tackles and a sack, Malachi Bruce, Dyer Barnes, Terry Casteel, and Logan Graves each had 2 tackles, and Clay Bean, Samuel Moore, Dominic Seiber, Logan Gallino, Austin Churchwell, Tuff Lindsey, Brennan Davis, Riley Ray, and Kade Carroll each had a tackle.

The Panthers return to action Friday night, September 9th, at 7 p.m. at Bobby W. Sharp Stadium as they host the Spring Hill Raiders. Homecoming ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.
