9th Annual Philbilly Cancer Ride Was A Success!

October 13, 2022

This year's Philbilly Cancer Ride, held September 17, was in memory of Wanda Vineyard who was there at the start of the Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund over 26 years ago and never missed any fundraiser that was for the Cancer Fund.

Organizer Jeff Mullins stated, "We had a good turn out this year considering. When I decided to keep it going for Billy and Phil Andrews, I had five weeks to get it all put together, after I got Billy and Phil's approval.

"I just couldn't let this event be canceled due to private family issues, so I went to work putting this event together. Those that fight this fight depend on these rides," said Mullins.

"We had 45 bikes and roughly nine vehicles come out to support and we raised over $9,000.00 this year. I'm so thankful that Billy & Phil handed this over to me this year and let me keep the tradition alive.

Jeff Mullins, right, presented Charlie Dugger of the Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund with a check from proceeds of the Philbilly Cancer Ride.

"None of this would have been possible without Mayor Danny McKnight, City of Hohenwald Police Department, and Steve Vineyard for escorting us out of town. Also all the people who helped me put this together, I appreciate each and every one of you."

The Perry County Sheriffs Department and Decaturville Police Department helped the riders get through the red lights and stop signs. Riders made stops at Hohenwald Billiards, The Hide Out, Cherokee Boat Mariana, and Why Not Bar and Grill.

The organizers expressed appreciation to the people who donated items to be auctioned off to raise money for a good cause. Travis "SoKo" McKissack and Floyd Sealey came out of retirement to provide entertainment for the night.

Mullins continued, "I can't thank Billy And Phil Andrews enough for allowing me to help them with this ride this year."
