A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was recently held at the new Lewis County Dog Park, which is located at 407 North Oak Street in Hohenwald.

Over the summer, Lewis County was selected as one of just fifteen communities across Tennessee to receive a $25,000 Dog Park grant from the Boyd Foundation, which is funded by the personal wealth of Randy and Jenny Boyd.

As a result, Lewis County now has one of the nicest Dog Parks in the state, and it is conveniently divided into two sections, one for small dogs, and one for large dogs. Each section includes new fencing and landscaping, as well as dog-friendly exercise equipment such as a jump over beam, hoop rings and a ramp, along with a pet waste station and picnic table.

"First and foremost, I want to thank the Boyd Foundation for providing all of the funds to build our Dog Park," stated Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner. "I also appreciate our County Commissioners, the Park Board, and Park Director Randall Hinson and his assistant, Denise Webb, for supporting this project; as well as Kayla Baxter of the South Central Tennessee Development District for writing our winning grant application."

"Finally, I want to thank our Maintenance Team of Derek Powers, Tommy Taylor, and Cazz Crowder for helping oversee this project; as well as our Dog Catcher, Randall Christy, who along with two Trustees from the Jail, assembled and installed all of the equipment at the Dog Park. It was a great team effort, and I'm grateful to everyone involved in this successful project," concluded Keltner.

The Lewis County Dog Park will be open seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset.
