There is Hope in Hohenwald,

Hohenwald Hope Center Ministries

Although Hohenwald is a great place to call home, when it comes to substance abuse and misuse, it falls in line with other rural communities that are being ravaged by drugs.

One local organization, Hope Center Ministries, decided they had to take action and try to rehabilitate those who have addictions in a way that lasts.

Commission approves last hoop for a new High School, County employee bonuses, increasing pit allowance

The Lewis County Board of Commissioners met on Monday, May 16, 2022, at the courthouse to discuss approval of loans for the new high school, giving a one-time bonus to county employees who were left out of the previous bonuses and increasing the weekly allowance of pit material at the dump.

Virginia man sentenced in death of Hohenwald man

Dennis Lee Seale entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of second degree murder in the 2017 death of Brian Deavers.


Seale was sentenced to 19 years on a court of second degree murder. Seale must serve 100% of that sentence. Seale was also sentenced to six years for aggravated burglary and an additional four years for vandalism, with each of those sentences running consecutive.

Donation made to provide meals for hungry kids in Lewis County

Representatives from Tennessee Farm Bureau, Tennessee Farmers Cooperative, and Farm Mid-American/Rural 1st donated a total of $2,700 to Lewis County Schools to provide backpack meals for hungry kids in Lewis County. Funds were raised through Shooting Hunger sporting clays shoots. Since 2015, Shooting Hunger events have provided more than two million meals to hungry Tennesseans.


Dr. Tracy McAbee announced as new Director of Schools

In a unanimous decision by the Lewis County Board of Education, Dr. Tracy McAbee was officially declared Lewis County’s preferred candidate for Director of Schools.

Dr. McAbee is the current Director of Schools for Carter County in Elizabethton.

New Veterans Service Office offcially open; Gov. Lee honored the late Ritchie Brewer

Service Veterans Officer Randy Duncan was excited to host his ribbon cutting event for the new Veterans Service Office on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

The office is located in the War Memorial Building on Smith Avenue. Governor Bill Lee was also in attendance for the opening and to recognize Connie Brewer and her late husband, Ritchie Brewer who was Lewis County’s previous Veterans Service Officer.

Lewis County wins appeal against IRS

Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner announced to Commissioners that the county earned a big victory against the IRS in its battle to have wrongfully charged penalties and interest refunded to the county.

According to Mayor Keltner, Lewis County Government received five different refund checks in the mail just last week from the IRS that totaled $74,872.81.

Those checks consisted of the final amounts of contested penalties and interest the county had been forced to pay the IRS back in 2020, when the Federal Government placed a lien on the county courthouse and demanded immediate payment of those funds.

Paul Bridges Airfield offically opened

A grand opening was held for the new airport runway at Paul Bridges Airfield on Saturday, June 4, 2022, by means of a fly-in where several pilots brought their most prized planes for the public to see.

Two years ago, it was announced to the County Commission that Lewis County officially had the oldest runway in the state, and that it was in dyer need of repair. The project came at an approximate cost of $2.5 million with a 4.5 percent match required from the County.

Annual St. Jude golf tournament held

The 17th Annual St. Jude Golf Tournament held at Hohenwald’s Municipal Golf Course on May 14, 2022 was another huge success. Over $20,000 was donated this year by sponsors in support of St Jude Children’s Research Hospital .

Warning: Be aware of Fentanyl Money!

Local authorities aren’t sure if recent discoveries of drug-laced money in public places is an intentional act or accidental, but it is a problem that everyone needs to be aware of in order to avoid exposure.

In the past couple of weeks, two one-dollar bills and a ten-dollar bill with a powdery residue have been found—and all three tested positive for methamphetamine and the powerful drug, Fentanyl.
