Couch sisters qualify for national rodeo finals

Cydney and Carley Couch are hometown Hohenwald rodeo cowgirls who love riding horses and competing in the National Little Britches Rodeo Association. The NLBRA is one of the oldest youth-based rodeo organizations. It was founded in 1952, and sanctions rodeos in over thirty-three states. Cydney and Carley, both, compete in the breakaway roping event. This features a calf and one mounted rider. Once the calf is released from the chute, the horse runs out of the box while the roper attempts to throw a lasso around the neck of the calf. The fastest time wins. Cydney roped a 1.7 second run, only days of turning sixteen! That is a professional breakaway time.

She sat at the #1 spot in the National Rankings for the entire season, last year. She won a buckle and took the top spot at the Tennessee River Little Britches in Decaturville, Tn for 2023. At only 17 years, she is a member of three NLB Franchises and won all three Senior Girl Breakaway titles for 2024! Cydney is the Senior Girl Breakaway Champion for 2024 in Western Kentucky, Tristar in Lebanon, and Tennessee River once again. She is finishing in the top 5 in the nation, heading into the National Little Britches Finals in Oklahoma.

This season was Carley's second year competing in the breakaway event. This year is her first year to swing a rope against competitors much older than herself. She is among the youngest at 15 years of age but is one of the most competitive in the sport. She qualified for the finals for 2023. That is no small feat for her first year. This year, she has improved greatly while in the senior division and will enter the finals sitting in the top of the most elite breakaway ropers.

These girls have always been around horses and found their love of roping in this ever-growing sport. Cydney will be competing in International Pro Rodeo Association Rodeos after her trip to the finals at the end of this month. Carley will continue in the NLBRA for the upcoming season, which begins in August.

Cydney and Carley were born and raised in Hohenwald. Cydney and Carley find time to practice and work on the farm, all while holding down a full-time job and keeping their grades up in school. This year will be the third year to qualify and compete in the National Little Britches Finals in Guthrie, Oklahoma. They have picked up some great season sponsors over the years. However, the trip to Oklahoma can be quite costly. As with any sport, there are expenses. With the sport of rodeo, there are equine expenses and diesel expenses to go along with clothes, entry fees, campsite, and stall fees and the two are looking to expand their sponsors. The finals trip is around $6,000 total. Cydney and Carley will be featured on the Cowboy Channel during the breakaway roping event. They also have their own Facebook page, which is updated frequently to keep their sponsors and fans in the loop. Please check it out at Couch Sisters Rodeo Life.
