Some Dreams Do Come True

When we are children, we often have the liberty of having unlimited big dreams. Sometimes, we trade them for new dreams or settle for what comes easily instead of pursuing what we truly want. Other times, our dreams never leave us, and we spend years fighting for them because we believe that our efforts will be blessed. Moore County High School Valedictorian Audrey Moorehead accomplished something that many never will, and this impressive feat is the first step in what looks like a very promising future for her. Ever since middle school, her goal has been to attend an Ivy League School. Now, this young lady has been accepted to Harvard, one of the most prestigious schools in this country’s history. After waiting for years, she will leave later this summer to see a childhood dream come true.

Moorehead has kept herself quite busy by being involved in Health Occupations Students of America, the National Honor Society, and the student council. She has received multiple awards for her hard work and exceptional talents, and she has spent years pushing herself; however, she has not done it all on her own. Moorehead has a wonderful support system of people who believed in her abilities even when she did not, including her mom. She stated, “I only got to this point by pushing myself to do everything I could to reach this goal. My mom was always there to keep pushing me, no matter how much I hated it. If it had not been for her pushing me and me pushing myself, I never would have reached this point. Sometimes, it is not easy, but it is so worth it!” Now, she is finally reaping the benefits of her hard work.

After writing an essay over her desire to end human trafficking and child labor as part of her submission, Moorehead was chosen to be interviewed and was eventually accepted by the school. She plans to major in government, literature, or history with the hopes of one day becoming a constitutional lawyer.

The only dreams that are too big for you are the ones you are not willing to chase. Moore County has been incredibly blessed with accomplished and intelligent young people, and even 17 year olds from small towns are capable of achieving great things.

Audrey is the daughter of Chad and Lisa Moorehead, of Moore County, previously of Hohenwald; the granddaughter of Larry and Merle Moorehead of Lynchburg, Essie Price of Fayette, Alabama, and the late John D. Price.
