Captain Joseph G. Petway, USAF, was awarded the Bronze Star medal in recognition of service rendered in Korea.

The Mayor and City council passed a resolution urging all candidates for Governor and the General Assembly of Tennessee to include in their platforms a measure providing cities a $0.01 municipal share of the state gasoline tax. The resolution further urged the people of Hohenwald to not supporting any candidate for Governor of Tennessee who failed to endorse this measure.
