Ocean Adventures This Summer at Library and Archives

Hoist the main sail and set a course for adventure when the Lewis County Public Library and Archives kicks off their 2022 Summer Reading Program, “Oceans of Possibilities: Streaming through Lewis County.” Throughout June and July, the library and archives will host a number of family-friendly events including a storybook walk through “Pete the Cat and the Treasure Map” an outdoor movie night, a musical performance by The Cleverlys, and other in-person aquatic adventures. The annual reading program will run June 3 through July 16. Registration begins May 31.

Designed to combat the “Summer Slide,” where children and teens experience a learning loss over the summer break from school, the library’s summer reading program keeps young minds active through reading and educational activities throughout the summer. A complete list of summer events can be picked up at the library.

Participants of all ages—from infant to adult—will earn virtual badges and real-world prizes by reading, attending programs, going on an oceanic scavenger hunt throughout town, and logging those activities through the READsquared app.

The 2022 Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the City of Hohenwald. Support materials are provided by the Tennessee State Library and Archives. Additional funding has been made possible through a Dollar General Literacy Foundation Summer Reading grant.
