Historic Preservation Commission discussed houses on Park Avenue

The Historic Preservation Commission met on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, to discuss the appearance of the two new houses built on Park Avenue South. Annette Peery, Barbara Hinson, Janet Turner, Savannah Buchanan, Brad Rasbury and Danny McKnight were present for the meeting. Scarlette Woodall, Blake Farr, DeAnna Darden-Carroll and Melissa Wickline were absent for the meeting.

Stoney Anthony and his business partner Derrick Graves built the two houses, and have met with the Commission several times to discuss the appearance of the two structures. This week the Commission discussed making the two houses stand out from one another with Graves and his wife.

Graves let the Commission know that he and Anthony did have a plan. Part of the plan was to have different braces for the porch. The white house would have exposed braces with stained wood, while the blue house would have stone around the braces.

Turner asked about the gables that were discussed at their last meeting to which Graves replied that the construction of the two houses would not allow enough room for a gable. The space in between the second floor windows and the porch would have only given them space for a six-inch gable, Graves said.

Commissioner Hinson asked if there would be any plans for landscaping as she hoped the concrete block foundation would be covered up. Graves assured her that they had plans to make sure the foundation would not be visible once the building project was completed.
