Sallie Pollock candidacy

To the citizens of Lewis County, my name is Sallie Pollock, and I am excited to announce that I am running for the 7th District seat on the Lewis County School Board. I am running because I truly value education and I believe in the ideals of service. Our children are our most valuable resource and I care about and understand the social and economical impact their education will have on not only our community, but also all the other places they will work and live. I value our children's futures.

Don and I have been married for 50 plus years and we have a daughter, Ashley, who is a Family Nurse Practitioner at a local clinic in Hohenwald. The three of us attend First Baptist Church. I have taught and co-taught Sunday School and served on numerous committees at our church. Don, Ashley and I have also been on numerous mission trips to Africa, Peru, and El Salvador.

I have a B.S. degree in Education from the University of North Alabama and a Master's Degree in Supervision and Instruction from Trevecca University in Nashville, Tennessee. I taught for 29 years in grades fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth. In all these years I served in many capacities. I served on many textbook adoption committees, worked with peers to develop curriculum, organized the First National Junior Beta Club, and was selected to be on a committee to hire a new principal. I have taught students how to organize and successfully operate concession stands for basketball games and Field Days. I have mopped floors in the bathrooms and painted my classrooms, sacked lunches in the cafeteria, and averaged grades for the top ten eighth grade classes. In addition, I was yearbook advisor for many years and one year I was awarded Teacher of the Year.

After living in Hohenwald for 50 plus years, it is an honor to be able to serve my community and school system by seeking this position. I am proud of the many strengths and achievements of our school system. We are blessed to have knowledgeable and effective teachers who care and also value the education of our children. I want to continue to retain and hire the very best teachers possible to educate our kids. I will do everything necessary within my power to ensure we have a safe school system where our children can grow and learn. I also want to help our teachers and staff focus on the requirements handed down from our State Department of Education so everyone can do their best job for our kids and our community.

I believe the long-term vision of a school board should be to provide leadership in ways that will ensure our youth to reach their full potential. I not only ask for your vote but thank you for your vote, so I can be your voice and you can help me educate our children.
