Cody Mitchell announces candidacy for School Board

Hello Lewis County,

I am Cody Mitchell and I am excited to be running for School Board in District 9. If you do not know me, I graduated Lewis County High School in 2011. I have my Bachelors degree in Business Management from Union University. I am married to Haley Mitchell, who teaches Second Grade, and was most recently the teacher of the year in the elementary school. We have been blessed with two sons, Finnley who is four and Baylor who is 2 months old. I am a Business Analyst for Farm Bureau Health Plans. I am a member of New Hope Baptist Church where I serve in different capacities. I have had the honor of serving the citizens of Hohenwald as a city councilman since 2019. I also am the chairman of the Lewis County Republican Party. There are many reasons I have chosen to run for school board, but one of the main reasons are my children and yours.

Our students matter and deserve our best - by any measure. Our system needs good solid leadership. I believe we have many things to work on in our system. I am running for school board to ensure these issues are addressed. My priorities are:

• To review and set policy to insure our schools are a safe environment for our children and staff.

• To work with our new superintendent Dr. McAbee on what his vision is for our system, and help implement this vision.

• To work with the teachers, administrators, aides, cafeteria workers, substitute teachers, bus drivers and all those who play a part in helping our system run. I will be a voice for all of them.

• To be a cheerleader for the school system. Be present in schools and actively involved in events and day-to-day happenings.

I will work for the students, and if our schools continue to improve and a marked change is seen, ALL county residents will benefit. There will be less need for bigger jails, property values will increase, and local businesses will grow if our school system is strong and successful.

I appreciate your support in District 9. Please help me be the voice for our children.
