Animalogy visits Lewis County Library

Lewis County Public Library and Archives met with Shawna from Animalogy for a fun program with live animals. Attendees met a uromastyx lizard from Asia and learned how it pretends to be poisonous, but is really harmless. Next a Gila monster made an appearance, and Shawna shared how, while they are venomous, the venom is actually beneficial for diabetes treatment. The Puebloan milk snake worried a few of the older attendees in the crowd until they found out it is a type of king snake that eats other snakes like cottonmouths and copperheads! Cries of "Mrs. Simone!!!!" rang out when Stephanie, the Columbian red-tailed boa, gently gave her a hug. After Stephanie was safely tucked away, Laverne and Shirley, the black-tailed prairie dogs, taught everyone the importance of keystone species. Throughout the program, the last animal guest shouted cries of "uh-oh!" and "hello!" Rainbow the yellow-naped Amazon parrot chatted with the audience and showcased his best evil laugh.

The library's next family event is I. C. Hope, a visit from the duck mascot who says "Don't Duck Mental Health." This program will be held at the library on Friday, July 15th at 10 a.m.
