Melanie S. Kupfer's Letter to the Editor

This is in response to the statement Senator Marsha Blackburn put out on August 8, 2022 and published in the Lewis County Herald August 11, 2022.

First, I would like to clarify that Mr. Trump is the EX-President of the United States. As a member of Congress Senator Blackburn should know this and stop perpetuating the continuing deception. President Biden was elected our current president by an overwhelming majority of voters.

Second, furnishings being taken from the White House, as Ms. Blackburn claims the Obamas did, is very different than taking our country’s top-secret files into his home with no clearance or safety features to keep them confidential, placing the entire United States in jeopardy. The FBI retrieving these items were no surprise to Mr. Trump. These items had been repeatedly requested by many of the same people Mr. Trump had commissioned into the position, so this retrieval of items was not a “witch-hunt” or partisan.

Third, Senator Blackburn asked, “If the DOJ can target President Trump, imagine what they will do to anyone who dares to support him.”

If anyone of the general public had taken United States top-secret property, they would be in prison.
