Lewis County Government was recently awarded a $226,500 grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

According to Lewis County Airport Manager Gary Nash, "These funds will be used to design an updated Airport Layout Plan, which will assist our county and state in prioritizing and developing future projects for our airport".

The state of Tennessee will fund 95% of this grant, while Lewis County Government is only responsible for providing a 5% match. However, no local tax dollars will be used, as the county's match will come from the sale of timber that was logged off airport property earlier this year.

"Our current ALP is nearly 30 years old", stated Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner. "It had to be updated, because over time the county has acquired more property and added a few hangars, among other things. This new plan will not only provide us with updated data and mapping, it will also put the county in a position to receive future grants for important aviation-related projects here in our community".

Engineers are expected to begin work on Lewis County's new Airport Layout Plan this Fall, and hope to have it completed sometime in late 2023.
