Celebrating National Cooperative Month

October 6, 2022

October is National Cooperative Month, and Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative - and all co-ops across the U.S. – are celebrating what cooperatives bring to their members and communities.

“The co-op business model is unique and rooted in our local communities,” says MLEC President and CEO Keith Carnahan. “Through safe, affordable, reliable power, broadband, energy programs, school and community support, MLEC is working to bring comfort, value and convenience to those we serve.”

October is also when MLEC will hold its annual membership meetings. Due to Covid and health concerns, this is the first time since 2019 that the co-op has been able to host five local meetings. Dates are October 6 at Hickman County High School; October 13 at Houston County High School; October 24 at Perry County High School; October 25 at Lewis County High School; and October 27 at Waverly Central High School.

Director candidates include - Hickman County: Incumbent Johnnie Ruth Elrod, Michael M. Pelger, Jr. and Melissa Rainbolt; Lewis County: Incumbent Dr. Jeff Peery, Austin B. Carroll, and Kurt Kristensen; Perry County: Incumbent Ronny Averett; and Humphreys County: Incumbent W. David Daniel, III. In Hickman and Lewis counties, registration and voting is from 5 – 7 p.m. Registration for other meetings begins at 6:30 p.m. All meetings are called to order at 7 p.m.

MLEC is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility that serves more than 35,000 meters in Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Lewis and Perry counties. We are helping build brighter futures and make connections possible for those we serve. Learn more at mlec.com.
