The Lewis County Herald recieved a call after press deadline on Tuesday evening, November 15 in response to our inquiry regarding the delinquent notice of the effective date of the new rate of sales tax collection.

Kelly Cortesi, Communications Director for the State of Tennessee Department of Revenue, informed us that the State of Tennessee is now suspending the sales tax increase in Lewis County until December 1, 2022.

The local sales tax percentage will increase 0.25%, from 9.5% to 9.75%. This increase, voted on during the August 2022 State/Federal Primary and County General Election, is to help pay for the building of a new high school.

We appreciate their timely attention to this matter and their dedication to encouraging the local business owners who are investing in our community.
