New crosswalk installed

A new crosswalk has been installed in front of the War Memorial Building on Smith Street. The addition comes after several calls of concern. "When HCTech first opened," said an employee who wanted to remain anonymous, "there were fewer employees, and parking wasn't a real issue. With more employees, and the parking area across the street being utilized heavily, the concern is greater. I've seen several of my coworkers almost get hit, because the drivers are going too fast and not paying attention."

The white stripes and yellow sign that reads "Pedestrian Crossing" brings the attention of the driver on the small but busy street to the potential pedestrians in the congested area. While there is no speed limit change, city officials hope the signage and bright crosswalk lines will encourage drivers to slow down in that area.
