4-H Health Rocks!

Lewis County 4-H focuses on building self-esteem through positive hands-on activities for youth

On Friday, March 31, members of local and state law enforcement, community elected officials, various teen volunteers, school staff and Lewis County Extension Staff, all came together for the Health Rocks! Celebration for the seventh and eighth graders of Lewis County Middle School. The youth had a fun day playing games and spending time getting to know the leaders of our community outside of their official duties. 'We appreciate these men and women for taking the time out of their busy schedules to help make this day happen,' said Whitney Dixon, 4-H Agent.

Health Rocks! applies 4H's successful Positive Youth Development model with life skill development and decision-making philosophy to the challenge of reducing tobacco, alcohol, e-cigarette/vaping and drug use.

Through the power of youth/adult partnerships, Health Rocks! instills in youth participants invaluable confidence and communication skills necessary to make responsible decisions and develop the internal strength to resist risky behaviors.

Health Rocks! utilizes the cornerstone 4H "Teens as Teachers" model to build leadership skills, leveraging the influence of young people by engaging teens to empower their peers and families to help establish life-long healthy habits.
