The Lewis County High School Panthers played the first of a pair of District 10-AA matchups with the Summertown Eagles on Monday, April 3rd in Summertown.

The Panthers went down in order in the first inning of the matchup, and Lewis County’s Brycen McDonald took the mound to start and proceeded to retire the side. McDonald started the Panthers second by lacing a double to center and would score the first run of the game on a misplayed ball off the bat of Ethan Ray to make it a 1-0 game. McDonald struck out three straight to keep the Eagles scoreless through two. The Panthers would be kept off the board for the next three innings, but the Eagles were unable to muster any offense against McDonald and Lewis County held on to a 1-0 lead as play moved to the top of the sixth. Brayden Whitlow singled to start the sixth and came around to score on a single by McDonald that put the Panthers up by two. Summertown would get on the board in the home half with a leadoff solo homerun and would tie the game later in the inning after a walk and a run scoring double made it a 2-2 game. Both teams went down in the seventh and the game moved to extra innings ties at two. In the ninth inning McDonald collected his third hit of the game with a single to lead the inning off, and Ray reached on a one-out error that put two on ahead of a two-run single by Hayden Jackson to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead. In the home ninth the Eagles would put pressure on Lewis County’s reliever Steele Moseley, who came on in the seventh for McDonald. A leadoff double followed by an error pulled Summertown to within one, but a huge outfield assist from Lincoln Brewer that cut down the would-be tying run at the plate would end the game as the Panthers took the game 4-3 in nine innings.

Brycen McDonald went 6 innings on the mound, allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walking 2 and striking out 13. Steele Moseley went 3 innings in relief and allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits while striking out 2. McDonald had 3 hits, a double, with 2 runs and an RBI. Hayden Jackson had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Brayden Whitlow had a hit and a run scored, and Sloan Moseley had a hit.

The LCHS Panthers hosted the Summertown Eagles at home on Tuesday, April 4.

After the big district win on Monday, the Panthers were at home looking for the regular-season sweep over the Eagles on Tuesday. Bentley Kelsey drew the start for the Panthers and breezed through the first. Kelsey led off the home half with a single and moved into scoring position on a double by Sloan Moseley. A bases loaded walk to Ethan ray would give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Both teams went scoreless in the second. A one-out walk got things going for the Eagles in the third and would lead to a tying run crossing on a double to make it 1-1. Lewis County bounced back in the home third after a leadoff single by Brayden Whitlow and a run-scoring sacrifice fly from Brycen McDonald gave the Panthers a 2-1 edge. Kelsey would run into trouble in the top of the fourth as Summertown would benefit from a couple of errors and push across three runs without the benefit of a hit to take a 4-2 lead. Ray reached on an error to start the Panther fourth and Hayden Jackson followed with a double to put two in scoring position with no outs, but the Panthers would only plate one as Ray crossed on a Braylon Bean single and the Eagles held a 4-3 edge moving on to the fifth. Kelsey retired the Eagles in order in the top half of the fifth, and the Panthers would put something together when they came in to bat. Walks to Whitlow and McDonald started a rally, and Lincoln Brewer drove in both with a one-out double. Hayden Jackson lined a two-out single to left to score Brewer and give the Panthers a 6-4 lead and was followed by a double by Bean and a pair of RBI singles by Steele Moseley and Kelsey to stretch the lead to 8-4. Kelsey was again perfect in the visitor sixth, and Lewis County would pad their lead with Sloan Moseley reaching on a leadoff single and McDonald drawing a walk to push Moseley into scoring position. Moseley would cross the plate on a balk with two outs to make it a 9-4 advantage for the Panthers. Whitlow came on in the seventh and would give up a two-out walk that would lead to a run on an error, but the Panthers closed it out with a 9-5 win to sweep the Eagles in regular season play.

Bentley Kelsey went 6 innings in the win, allowed 4 runs (1 earned) on 1 hit with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Brayden Whitlow went 1 inning and gave up an unearned run on no hits while walking 1 and striking out 2. Bentley Kelsey had 2 hits, a run, and an RBI, Sloan Moseley 2 hits, a double, and a run scored, Hayden Jackson 2 hits, a double, and an RBI, Braylon Bean 2 hits, a double, a run, and an RBI, Brayden Whitlow a hit and 2 runs, Lincoln Brewer a double, a run, and 2 RBI, and Steele Moseley a hit and an RBI.
