After Lewis County went down without a run in the opening inning Brayden Whitlow took the mound for the start. Whitlow put the first two batters on with a hit by pitch and opened the gates for an eight-run start as the Cougars led 8-0 after one. Lincoln Brewer reached to start the Panther second and scored on a groundout by Hayden Jackson to make it 8-1., but Dickson County would get the run back in the bottom half to take a 9-1 lead. After the Panthers went down in the third, Braylon Bean came on to pitch for Lewis County and gave up a pair of hits and a pair of runs and Dickson County took a 12-1 lead. Four consecutive singles from Ethan Ray, Jackson, Bean, and Steele Moseley started the fourth and led to four Panther runs that made it a 12-5 game. Both teams would be held scoreless through the top of the sixth, but Dickson County would tack on two in the home sixth to make it a 14-5 game, and that score held as the Panthers fell 14-5.

Lincoln Brewer had 2 hits and a run, Brayden Whitlow a hit and an RBI, Ethan Ray a hit and a run, Hayden Jackson a hit and an RBI, Braylon bean a hit and an RBI, and Steele Moseley a hit , a run, and an RBI. Whitlow went 2 innings, gave up 9 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits, walking 1 and striking out 1. Braylon Bean 3 innings with 2 runs allowed on 4 hits with 3 walks. Keegan Carroll-Clayton pitched 1 inning, giving up 3 runs on 1 hit with a walk.

The Lewis County High School Panthers traveled to Lawrenceburg for an afternoon of baseball against the Lawrence County Wildcats on Thursday, April 20.

Bentley Kelsey led the game off with a double and scored on a one-out double by Sloan Moseley and the Panthers took a 1-0 lead. Kelsey made the start and gave up two singles to start the inning but limited the Wildcats to only one and the game was tied 1-1. Both teams went scoreless in the second. Kelsey and Brayden Whitlow started the third with singles and Kelsey would score in the inning to make it 2-1 Panthers. the Wildcats would tie the game in the home half with three consecutive singles to make the score 2-2. Steele Moseley singled with one out in the fourth and cross on a Whitlow double to put the Panthers back on top 3-2. Kelsey worked a scoreless fourth. The Panthers loaded the bases with one out in the fifth but only managed a single run as they took a 4-2 lead. Kelsey ran into trouble in the Wildcat fifth as Lawrence County scored three before Steele Moseley was able to come in and close out the inning, but the Wildcats creeped out in front 5-4. Whitlow started the sixth with a solo homerun to left to tie the game at 5-5. Moseley worked a scoreless sixth, and both teams were kept off the board in the seventh sending the game into extra innings. Kelsey led off the eighth with a triple and came in to score during Sloan Moseley’s at-bat to put the Panthers on top 6-5, and the Panthers would fend off the Wildcats in the bottom half to take the win.

Bentley Kelsey had 3 hits, a double and a triple, and 3 runs, Brayden Whitlow had 3 hits, a double and a homerun, a run, and 2 RBI, Sloan Moseley a double and 2 RBI, Steele Moseley a hit, a run, and an RBI, Ethan Ray a hit, and Brycen McDonald a run and an RBI. Kelsey went 4 1/3 innings, allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 10 hits while walking 1 and striking out 10. Steele Moseley threw 3 2/3 innings and allowed 1 hit and walked 2.

The Lewis County High School Panthers returned to district play on Monday, April 24 as they hosted the Giles County Bobcats.

It was a pitcher’s duel at Lynn Tiller Field when the Panthers and Bobcats squared off in the first of two district matchups. Brycen McDonald took the bump and held the Bobcats scoreless in the first. Bentley Kelsey and Brayden Whitlow each singled to start the home first, and the Panthers loaded the bases with one out, but an inning ending double play kept the Panthers scoreless. Both teams were kept off the board through the third inning. McDonald hit a bump in the top of the fourth as Giles County was able to string together three hits and a sacrifice that plated two in the inning to stake a 2-0 lead. That would be enough for the Giles County ace as the Panthers and Bobcats both went scoreless for the remaining three-and-a half innings and Giles County took the win 2-0.

The Panthers were held to three hits in the game, Brayden Whitlow had 2 and Bentley Kelsey 1. Brycen McDonald went 7 innings, allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 6.

The LCHS Panthers traveled to Pulaski for a district rematch with the Giles County Bobcats on Tuesday, April 25.

Unlike the previous day’s game, Tuesday at Sam Davis Park was an offensive showdown. Giles County would keep the Panthers quiet in the first and opened up the bottom of the first with three hits and a walk off of Panther started Hayden Jackson and took a 3-0 lead. The Panthers were again scoreless in the second, but the Bobcats were not. Three straight two-out singles and a three-run homer would pull Giles County out in front 7-0. The Panthers responded in the visitor third. Steele Moseley singled, Bentley Kelsey walked, and Brayden Whitlow plated a run with a single. A misplayed ball off the bat of Sloan Moseley scored a run and a one-out double by Lincoln Brewer brought home two more. The Panthers would score five in the inning to make it a 7-5 game. After the Bobcats went down in order in the bottom of the third the Panthers would get a two-out double from Whitlow and a two-run shot from Sloan Moseley to tie the game 7-7. Giles County would reclaim the lead in their half of the inning with three hits and a costly Panther error that allowed the home team to take a 9-7 lead. Both teams were kept off the board in the fifth. Steele Moseley led off the sixth with a single and scored on a two-out triple by Sloan Moseley. The Panthers plated three in the inning to take the lead 10-9. Bentley Kelsey came on in the bottom of the sixth and Giles County tied the game with back-to-back hits as the game moved to the seventh tied at ten. Both teams went down in order in the seventh and the game went into extra innings. With two down in the top of the eighth Sloan Moseley reached with a single and Brycen McDonald drove a ball deep into the Pulaski night for a two-run jack and the Panthers went up by two. Kelsey worked a scoreless bottom of the eight and the Panthers took a big district win 12-10.

Sloan Moseley had 3 hits, 2 triples and a homerun, 4 runs, and 3 RBI, Brayden Whitlow had 3 hits, a double, 1 run, and 1 RBI, Steele Moseley 3 hits and a run, Brycen McDonald 2 hits, a double and a homerun, 2 runs, and 2 RBI, Lincoln Brewer 2 hits, a double, 1 run, and 3 RBI, Ethan ray a hit, and Bentley Kelsey 2 runs. Hayden jackson went 5 innings, allowed 9 runs (6 earned) on 12 hits and struck out 3. Bentley Kelsey 3 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 3.

The Lewis County Panthers concluded their 2023 regular season at home on Friday, April 28 against the Wayne County Wildcats.

Steele Moseley took the start for the Panthers and worked around a leadoff double for a scoreless first and the Panthers went down in order. Moseley worked out of a jam in the second to keep the Wildcats off the board and Lewis County would strike first in the home half. Brycen McDonald led the inning off with a single and would score on an error to put the Panthers in front 1-0. Wayne County would counter in the third piecing together a rally to score two and take a 2-1 lead. Steele Moseley reached to start the Panther third, and the Panthers would get hits from Brayden Whitlow, Sloan Moseley, Brycen McDonald, Lincoln Brewer, and Hayden Jackson to explode for six runs to take a 7-2 lead. After the Wildcats went down in order in the fourth the Panthers added a run after a single by Sloan Moseley and a walk to McDonald set up a run-scoring sac fly by Brewer that put the home team on top 8-2. The Panthers added two in the fifth with a two-run single by Steele Moseley after a Jackson single and a Wayne County error that put the Panthers up 10-2. The Wildcats would face Brayden Whitlow for the final three innings and were only able to pick up one run as the Panthers came away with a 10-3 win.

Sloan Moseley had 3 hits, 2 runs, and an RBI, Brycen McDonald 2 hits, a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI, Hayden Jackson 2 hits, a double, and 2 RBI, Brayden Whitlow a hit and a run, Lincoln Brewer a hit and a run, Steele Moseley a hit, a run, and an RBI, Braylon Bean a run and an RBI, and Ethan Ray a run scored. Steele Moseley went 4 innings, allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2. Brayden Whitlow went 3 innings, allowed an unearned run on 3 hits while striking out 4.
