Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
Doug DeWitt
The Lewis County Historical Society will meet on June 5, 2023 at the Lewis County Senior Citizens Building at 6:00 p.m. for a program presented by Doug DeWitt.
In honor of confederate Memorial Day, Air Force retired Chaplain Doug DeWitt will give a presentation on the extraordinary courage, valor, and dedication of the military units the men and women of Lewis County served with. He will also discuss the units’ battles and leadership in Middle Tennessee. Many of you may remember the program he did several months ago and all the information he presented and they also had many good pictures and information to share with us.
Before becoming a Chaplain, Lt Col DeWitt was the designer and first curator of a museum named by the Air Force as “The Best Base Level Museum”. He also taught military history and tactics at the Air Force Officers Training School.
Many times, he brought the future officers to Middle Tennessee in order for them to gain a better understanding of good and bad leadership in the fog of war. Chaplain DeWitt jokes how in the mid-1980’s when he was driving by his future home, but he does remember saying- “this would be a nice place to retire to”.
We had Matt Tiller for our meeting in May and it was such a wonderful program for all those of the older generation with information that was so helpful for us and many things that I did not know and am sure others did not also. It dealt with our safety at home as well as being out in the community and phone scams and many other things that was so helpful.
Please make plans to attend on Monday, June 5. Call Dorothy Warf 931-796-3880 for more information.
