Henry Boyce Sims

May 25, 1945 - May 26, 2023

Mr. Boyce Sims of Hohenwald, was born May 25, 1945, to the late Roy Sims and Pauline Gobble Sims, and passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, at the age of 78.

Born and raised in Hohenwald, Boyce worked 32+ years as a quality control inspector with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Pineview Church of Christ.

Every morning his little red Chevy S10 pickup would be found parked outside the Southern Skillet. Inside you would find Boyce with his friends, drinking coffee and usually discussing politics, of which Boyce was a proud Republican. He enjoyed push-mowing his yard because pushing made the lawn look a lot nicer and he loved working in a garden. He loved to aggravate, give people nicknames, most of which still stick to some people today, collect coins and wheat pennies, and loved finding “buckeyes” and giving them to family members because of the good luck they bring. A simple man who loved the simple things, if he wasn’t found at the Skillet he could be found on South Walnut Street, sitting in a lawn chair in the yard enjoying the day and the things around him.

Visitation and funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 30, at McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald. Bill Webb and Nathan Duncan officiated.

A private burial and service will follow at a later time in the Napier Cemetery.

He is survived by three daughters, Paula Sims, Ann (Nathan) Duncan and Beth (James) Howard all of Hohenwald, Brother Jerry Sims of Milan, Tennessee, 12 grandchildren: Ragan and Chandler Lewis, Kara Beth Carroll, Pryce Sims, Canaan, Isaac, Eli, Noah and Marlee Rae Duncan, Jaylon (Brooklyn), Jaxon and Kabry Howard, six great grandchildren, and numerous special friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister Peggy Peevyhouse.
