History of Allen's Creek Lecture at Library and Archives

Allen’s Creek

Robert “Bob” D. Patton will present a program about the history of Allen’s Creek and Riverside on June 24th, 1 p.m., at the Lewis County Public Library and Archives. Patton has created a map of Allen’s Creek and Riverside, highlighting all the households, churches, schools, and other buildings, based on his childhood memories. The map will be displayed during the program.

Patton grew up in Riverside, the son of Luther and Thelma Bloom Patton, and has fond memories of childhood adventures. “I did not think a lot about family history when I was young,” stated Patton. “As I grew older, I became more interested in my past and the experiences and people who helped mold me into the person I am. I have also came to see the importance of the environment I experienced and how it contributed to my life… I’m excited to share my memories and the history of Riverside with the community.”

A professor emeritus for the College of Public Health at East Tennessee State University, Patton has published seven books. His latest book is a memoir titled Living Positive with Imperfection which explores over six decades of his life. Despite many setbacks in life, Patton never let those obstacles prevent him from forging ahead.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Lewis County Public Library and Archives at (931) 796-5365.
