Last week, Circuit Court Judge, Michael Spitzer, hosted a meeting with the leaders of the 32nd Judicial District, where he discussed the implementation of a new Mental Health Court for Hickman, Lewis and Perry counties.

During the meeting, Judge Spitzer emphasized the importance of Mental Health Courts, which are designed to provide better services and treatment for people with mental illnesses.

Judge Spitzer also introduced Denise Staggs as the new Mental Health Court Director. Mrs. Staggs recently retired from Lewis County Schools after a 30-year career in education, and stated she looks forward to this new opportunity to help and serve the citizens of the 32nd Judicial District.

The Mental Health Court was made possible by a $103,991 state grant that was awarded to Lewis County Government by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Services. This is a fully-funded grant requiring no match; therefore, no local tax dollars will be used.
