James William Franks Jr.

June 22, 1944 - August 14, 2023

James William Franks Jr. was born June 22, 1944 in Wayne County, the son of the late James William Sr. and Sarah Marie Melson Franks. He was united in marriage to Diane Casner on April 13, 1969.

James honorably served his country during the Vietnam era in the United States Army. James worked for many years at Genesco Manufacturing Comany, Eaton Manufacturing Company in Hohenwald, and he retired from Hassel and Hughes Lumber Company.

He was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church. In his spare time, James loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and was a very dedicated Braves fan. Mr. Franks departed this life on August 14, 2023 in Waynesboro, surrounded by family at the age of 79 years, 1 month, and 23 days.

He is survived by his wife Diane Franks of Waynesboro, son, Kevin Wayne Franks of Waynesboro, daughters, Sonya Gail Melson (Billy) of Waynesboro, and Leigh Ann Risner of Waynesboro, brothers, Steve Franks (Joann) of Hohenwald, Grayford Franks (Carolyn) of Clifton, Paul Franks of Waynesboro, and Sam Franks (Martha) of Waynesboro, sisters, Linda Owens of Waynesboro, Lois Franks of Waynesboro, Carolyn Adams of Collinwood, Kitty Pulley (Ronnie) of Portland, Doris Creecy (Randall) of Waynesboro, and Sheila Alley (Jeff) of Waynesboro, 7 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, with Bro. Craig Mason and Greg Eaton officiating. Burial with Military Rites followed in the Memorial Gardens at Waynesboro, with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.
