Barrett Smith, Library Aide at Lewis County Public Library and Archives, recently received the Core Competencies Certified designation from the Tennessee State Library & Archives. Barrett is the son of Greg and Stacy Smith of Hohenwald, TN.

The TSLA Core Competencies certification program provides library staff statewide with ten hours of training in core librarianship standards. The program focuses on 28 subject areas that the state considers best practices for staff members to serve their library and community including technology basics, customer service practices, information literacy, privacy, and leadership.

"Earning the Core Competencies certification is an important training step in providing exceptional library service," stated Jonah Keltner, Lewis County Mayor. "I appreciate Barrett's commitment to serving the citizens of our community."

Lewis County Public Library and Archives is dedicated to providing residents with a level of excellence that begins with the Tennessee Standards for Public Libraries and goes on to meet the specific needs of Lewis County. All library employees are required to complete Core Competencies training along with additional annual training. Staff are also encouraged to obtain other certifications based on library and community needs.
