Mary Claudene Nutt

Mary Claudene Nutt, known to her friends and family as Claudene, was called to her heavenly home on August 29, 2023. She was born on October 19, 1926, in Hohenwald to Claude Edward and Hettie Lou Spann Anderson. Claudene lived a life filled with love and unwavering faith until the Lord claimed her back, filling her 96 years with a profound sense of community and fellowship.

Claudene was a pillar of the community. She gave 28 years to Walmart, providing service with a smile and a kind word for everyone who walked through the doors. She loved her coworkers at Walmart and even at the age of 89, tried to keep up with them the best she could. She would often say how she missed her job. Claudene also served at Henry I. Siegel for 18 years. She further contributed to the community as a cafeteria worker for the Lewis County Schools.

Claudene was known for her cooking skills, and her kitchen was a place of warmth and welcome. She wasn't just content with cooking; she loved to share her knowledge and tell you how to cook. Her garden was a testament to her nurturing nature and to her green thumb.

Claudene was a faith-filled woman. She wouldn't complain about anything, even when others might have, she was ever grateful She was a lifelong, dedicated member of Riverside Church of Christ. She lived a life full of love, service, and faith, and she has now returned to the arms of our Heavenly Father, where she surely hears the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

In addition to her parents, Claude and Hettie Anderson, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband Carmel Ralph Nutt; granddaughter, Kelly Barber; and great-grandson Zachary Barber.

Claudene leaves behind her three beautiful daughters, Gwen Spears, Glenda (Larry) Hammack, and Connie (John) Stanley; her sisters, Jane Spears and Betty Harvill; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren, along with several cherished nieces and nephews. Her children and grandchildren were the apple of her eye. Her children, their spouses, and the generations that followed were all blessed to know, love, and be loved by this remarkable woman.

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Riverside Church of Christ. Claudene was laid to rest beside her husband in Swiss Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Ms. Claudene to the Riverside Church of Christ.
