October 19, 2023

The “2022 Economic Impact of Travel on Tennessee” report recently revealed that tourism in Lewis County generated a record-high $5.1 MILLION in domestic visitor spending last year.

According to the report, tourists visiting Lewis County spent over 10% more in our community last year when compared to such spending in 2021, and over 45% more when compared to 2020.

“Tourism helps drive economic development, and annual events such as the City’s ‘Christmas in Hohenwald,’ the Chamber’s ‘October Heritage Festival,’ and the Fair Board’s ‘South Central Area Fair’ continue to grow and attract more and more visitors here each year,” stated Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner.

“I’m also very proud of the County’s ‘Buffalo River Blueway Project,’ which has gained praise from tourist organizations across the state for drawing in lots of kayakers, fishermen, and nature enthusiasts to our community,” concluded Keltner.

Tourism is the #2 industry in Tennessee, and last year it generated $29 BILLION in direct visitor spending across the state. Tax dollars generated by tourism support important public services like education, health and safety.
