Lewis County Schools

One of Only Seven Selected for TAP Pilot Program

December 7, 2023

Tennessee Department of Education announced November 17th that Lewis County Schools were one of seven districts to participate in the state-certified TAP (Teaching as a Profession) pre-apprenticeship pilot program. Lewis County High School implemented the Teaching as a Profession program of study that is part of the Career & Technical Education program this school year where Mrs. Lauren Hamm teaches this pathway. Mrs. Hamm has been teaching for ten years and does an excellent job of encouraging students more to learn about the field of education and letting them know it is a viable option.

Teaching as a Profession provides high school students interested in becoming educators with a high-quality, work-based learning pathway through hands-on work experience in classroom instruction, management, lesson planning, professionalism, and more. These courses are a valuable opportunity for students to get hands-on classroom experience while still in high school. As students progress through the pathway, they will be able to participate in forming relationships with younger children as they interact and tutor in the lower grades. The pilot program will help to better prepare them earlier on to enter the teaching profession, excel in their teaching careers, and support the Grow Your Own program.

School officials are very excited and honored to be selected as one of the seven districts to participate in this pilot program. There are great things going on in Lewis County Schools.
