LCHS Basketball takes on Hamphire, Wayne County and Perry Co

The LCHS Lady Panthers and Panthers played their first home game on Tuesday, November 28 as they hosted the Lady Hawks and Hawks of Hampshire.

The Lady Panthers fell behind 12-4 early in the first but closed out the first quarter on a 9-0 run to claim a 14-13 lead at the end of the period. Lewis County’s run continued into the second as the Lady Panthers opened the quarter on a 7-0 run and opened up a 32-17 lead at halftime. The second half was more of the same as the Lady Panthers offense continued to click. Lewis County would surge to a 47-30 lead moving into the fourth. In the fourth the Lady panthers outscored the Lady Hawks 8-7 to take their first win of the season 55-37. Haylee Carroll led the Lady Panthers in the win with 22 points, including 4 three’s, Jazalyn Conner added 9 points, Emery Norris and Gabii Ortiz each had 8, Klayr Shepherd added 4, and Blayr Clayton and Ruth Jennings each had 2.

The Panthers and Hawks played a tight opening quarter as the Hawks matched the host in the early going with Lewis County holding a slim 14-13 lead at the end of the period. The Panther defense tightened up after the close opening and Lewis County opened up a 27-17 lead as the teams went in at halftime. Lewis County’s offense came out of the break inspired as the Panthers began to pull away and secured a 55-30 lead as play moved to the final eight minutes. The Panthers outscored the Hawks 8-1 in the fourth en route to a 63-31 win at home. Maddox tanner had 15 points in the win, Kobe Feichtinger added 14, Dakota Hull 11, Bo Banks 8, Julian Jones 6, Jaxon Fite 4, Caiden Miller 3, and Ethan Powers 2.

The Lewis County Lady Panthers and Panthers squared off with the Wayne County Lady Wildcats and Wildcats on Monday, November 20th in Waynesboro.

The Lady Panthers faced the Lady Wildcats in the opener and Wayne County wasted little time taking control of the game. Wayne County’s pressure overwhelmed the young Lady Panthers as the Lady Wildcats jumped out to a big 21-4 lead. Wayne County continued to dominate to halftime as the carried a 48-8 lead at the half. The second half was more of the same as the Lady Panthers were never able to overcome the stifling defense as Wayne County cruised to a big 79-14 win. Jazalyn Conner had 6 points for Lewis County, Blayr Clayton and Ruth Jennings each had 3, and Gabii Ortiz added 2.

The panthers took the floor in the second game and played a tight opening quarter as both teams found success and Wayne County held a slim 19-17 lead. The second quarter saw the host put some distance between the two teams, outscoring the Panthers 21-12 to secure a double-digit halftime lead at 40-29. After the break the Wildcats continued to add to their lead as they outscored the panthers 28-18 in the period and built a 68-47 lead as play moved to the fourth. The Panthers were unable to overcome the big lead and fell 82-65. Dakota Hull had 16 in the loss for the Panthers, Phenix McDonald added 11, Maddox Tanner 10, Julian Jones and Bo Banks 9 each, Jaxon Fite 5, Drew Ray and Sam Moore 2, and Ryan Tanner 1.

The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers and Panthers traveled to Linden on Tuesday, November 21st to take on the Perry County Lady Vikings and Vikings.

The Lady Vikings rode their defense in the first quarter as the Lady Panthers struggled on the offensive side of the ball. Quick baskets in transition allowed Perry County to take control early and pull out to a 30-2 lead in the first. The Lady Panthers settled down and played a tighter second period as the Lady Vikings took a 38-7 lead in at halftime. The Lady Panthers continued to show improvement over the second half, but the hug first quarter lead was too much as Perry County took the win 52-20. Haylee Carroll led Lewis County with 9 points on the night, Gabii Ortiz added 3, and Blayr Clayton, Jazalyn Conner, Jayden Moore, and Ruth Jennings each finished with 2.

Hot shooting by both teams was the start of the boy’s game. Perry County secured a lead late in the first quarter and held a 23-18 advantage. Lewis County bounced back in the second quarter as they outpaced the host 16-10 in the quarter and held a 34-33 lead as the game reached the halftime intermission. The Panthers came out of the break and picked up where they left off in the first, outscoring the Vikings 2015 in the third and held a 54-48 lead moving into the fourth. perry County’s defense amped up in the final eight minutes, limiting the Panthers to only 7 points in the period while taking a lead down the stretch on the way to a 72-61 win. Julian Jones had 17 for the Panthers to lead, Dakota Hull added 14, Drew Ray, Jaxon Fite, and Kobe Feichtinger each had 6, Bo Banks 5, Phenix McDonald 4, and Maddox Tanner 3.
