Sherry Ellen Morse-Drake, 82, a light of love and laughter, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2024, in Columbia. Born on December 4, 1941, in Canandaigua, New York, to the late Garth and Isabel Howell, she was a cherished sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who brought joy to all who knew her.

Her journey began in the beautiful landscapes of upstate New York, where her vibrant spirit was nurtured among her siblings. Though she outlived all but one of her brothers and sisters, including her brother Garry Howell and sisters Betty Baker and Patty Howell, the bonds of family remained a guiding force throughout her life. Sherry was also predeceased by her beloved husbands, Richard Drake, Robert Morse, and Wilber "Skip" Vanostrand, and her grandson Joseph Tracey, granddaughter Cassandra Baker, and son-in-law Lee Baker.

Sherry's legacy is lovingly carried on by her children, Douglas (Cindy) Morse, Debi Baker, Bonnie (Wally) Kotlik, Robb (Kaysi) Morse, Kim (Bill) Shull, Jeff (Colleen) Drake, Val (Ed) Petritis, Doug (Laurel) Drake, and Bobby Drake. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved with her whole heart. Her sister, Sally (Jim) Johnson, will miss her deeply, as well as the friends she made throughout her life, and her dear grand puppy Ava, who brought her much joy playing in the yard.

A woman of diverse interests and commitments, Sherry was an active member of the Lewis County Elks Lodge, the Red Hat Society, the Hohenwald Coffee Club, and the Hohenwald Senior Citizens Center. Her service and involvement in these organizations reflected her passion for her community and her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Sherry had a zest for life that was evident in her hobbies and activities. She was an avid participant in diamond art, and she cherished the time spent writing to pen pals. Her presence was a highlight at the town's trunk or treat events and the Hohenwald Christmas parades with the Elks lodge. Sherry was known for her witty remarks and engaging stories, and she never missed an opportunity to meet someone new, earning her the affectionate nickname "mama" from many.

A friend to Bill W., Sherry's warmth and kindness extended to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She moved to Hohenwald for the better weather, having grown tired of the snow, and there she found a community that embraced her wholeheartedly. Her home was a sanctuary where she loved watching the woods and yard, a place where friends and family gathered to share stories.

Sherry's life was marked by her loving nature, her sense of humor, and her unwavering kindness. She was always there to listen and help with a problem, providing a listening ear and a helping hand whenever needed. Her legacy is one of laughter, love, and the countless lives she touched with her generous spirit.
