“This will be a destination location for not only Lewis, but also surrounding counties. With only 20% of the citizens using it, our goal is to build up the golf course into a place where the remaining 80% can enjoy the benefits of the facility as well.” These are the encouraging words of Brian Matthews of B&B Concepts Golf LLC, during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 6th. While the City of Hohenwald will retain ownership of the land, they have come to an agreement with the LLC to lease the golf course to make way for some exciting new plans.

Some of the improvements discussed and planned for, include:

* A new restaurant, classy-casual sports-themed “Jefferson’s” will carry a full menu of burgers, chicken, salads, catfish, shrimp & grits, oysters, wraps, meat & three options, fresh-made desserts, and will offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and more. The chef has trained at numerous institutions, including in France. His passion is creating “from-scratch” style, and he is excited to create great food for Lewis County.

* Outdoor Family Events such as Ladies Nights, Thursday Scrambles, and even a Putt Putt Golf Course.

The course is in good shape and will never be any worse than it is today,” said Matthews. “Our goal,” he continued, “is to work in phases, consulting not only our team, but also those who have been committed to the course and have prior knowledge and experience, like Dustin Davis.

* Lessons: There will be a golf professional on-staff to teach daily lessons. She is a D1 scholarship player and is looking forward to helping the community learn to golf.

* Working with the school systems: The group has been in communication with golf instructors at the school, and they look forward to providing a private putting area for the golf teams to practice.

There will be senior discounts, youth discounts and packages.

“We plan to grow with other businesses down the road,” the group informed, “but we’re starting with the golf course. I think we’re going to be a good fit for this community, and we’re looking forward to working with you all to make this a great destination space.” Vice Mayor Don Barber agreed, “I think this is a very good solution, and if our operator meets anywhere near all of their plans, this will be a very successful entity for everybody in the community.” Councilmen in attendance King, Bass and Barber voted to approve the lease.

For every 1,900 citizens, Hohenwald releases a liquor store license.
