The Lewis County Middle School Panther Soccer Team began its inaugural season at A.B. Sisco Field in dominating fashion! Led by coaches Braden Brewer and Shannon Denton, the Panthers controlled the ball from the opening whistle against the visiting Waynesboro Wildcats. An early first half goal off the foot of #27 Henry Sharp gave the Panthers their first lead and first ever goal. Lewis County would strike again with a goal from Aaron Gomez.
The Panthers went into the half with a 2-0 lead against the Wildcats. Gomez would score again in the second half, bumping the lead 3-0. The Wildcats would not go away easily and scored off a corner kick, cutting the lead to 2. The Panthers were anchored by goalie #21 Sammie Aguilar. #19 Matthias Godfrey would put the Wildcats to bed with a final goal for the Panthers 4-1 victory. The Panthers would continue their dominance on the field with a 2-0 win during the JV match with goals from #3 Harvey Sharp and # 20 Ariana Morey to the delight of the home crowd.
The Panthers traveled to Waynesboro for the second leg of a home series against the Wildcats. The Waynesboro Wildcats were ready to even the score and took the half time lead 1-0 against the Panthers. #6 Aaron Gomez would get a quick equalizer to tie the score. However, that would be the end of scoring for the night. The Panthers would go on to play for a 1-1 draw against the Wildcats. The JV team would also play to a 1-1 draw with #25 Ashton Chapin scoring a goal for the Panthers.
The Panthers will take their unbeaten streak into their second week of play with matches against Leoma and South Lawrence.
