April 1, 1954

The construction of a natural gas pipeline through the county brought a large influx of workers and their families to Hohenwald. Most were living in campers; however, many were living in private homes and anywhere that they could get shelter. A list of transient families and their hometowns were published along with the following greeting: “The Herald joins with the people of Hohenwald in welcoming these people of their stay in the best town we know of, HOHENWALD.”

The total collection for the Red Cross drive in 1954 was $1,613.08, exceeding the quota of $1,490.
