Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
In honor of Earth Day, more than 30 individuals from Hohenwald, Tennessee and nearby areas came together on Saturday, April 20, for The Sanctuary's second annual "Trashercise" Community Cleanup event. Together, volunteers and community members collected a whopping 95 bags of trash and recyclables from Lewis County streets and waterways! Additionally, 80 tires were collected, and thanks to Oliver Technologies, they were able to be disposed of responsibly. The group who collected the most bags was awarded a special trophy.
"The Community Cleanup was a success again this year, and I appreciate all those who were involved in planning, sponsoring and organizing the event," says Hohenwald Mayor Jonah Keltner. "I also appreciate the dozens of volunteers who came out and worked very hard to help clean up Lewis County!"
The 2024 event was made possible by the support of the City of Hohenwald, Lewis County Government, the Lewis County TDOT Litter Grant Program, the Hohenwald/Lewis County Chamber of Commerce, and numerous community supporters.
"Recognizing the critical role of both elephants and people in sustaining planet Earth," said a representative of the Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee, "The Sanctuary extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who does their part in preserving our planet's health for both our communities and elephants worldwide. We are already looking forward to Earth Day 2025!"
