Triangle Convenience Store armed robbery

Triangle Shell Manager Kalpesh Patel

If it wasn't enough that Triangle Shell Manager Kalpesh Patel had to contend with severe storms and rain last Thursday night here in Hohenwald, then the power went down for much of the county and certainly all of Hohenwald, including him. Close to 8:00 p.m., a masked gunman forced his way through the front door and demanded cash from the till at gun point. Patel eventually complied and the robber got away with around $1,300.

Hohenwald Police Department got the call a few minutes after 8:00 p.m., but by the time they got to the store, the robber had fled the scene either on foot or in a vehicle.

Within the next hour rumors had started to spread like wildfire around town that Walmart had also been robbed and so had Tractor Supply, as well as Sanders, a convenience store close to Linden. Someone had been very busy, or so it seemed. However, a little more investigation by yours truly discovered this was far from the truth.

Fire Chief Steve Vineyard, when asked on Monday, explained that it looked like the power had gone completely out in Walmart. Knowing that the Covid 19 vaccines were stored in the pharmacy, and out of concern that the vials could be useless in a short time, the fire deparment made the decision to pick up a generator from the fire station. Vineyard stated they were attempting to hook it up when the power came back on in the store. A spokesperson at Walmart has since said that Walmart did in fact have back-up for such emergencies and the pharmacy alone had three separate power supplies, so the Covid 19 supplies were quite safe.

As far as Sanders store near Linden was concerned, a quick phone call to the police confirmed it was a hoax phone call, and Tractor Supply Store here in Hohenwald was never a robbery suspect, just a gathering place for police and fire brigade to assess the situation.

Amazing what rumors will do, and in such a short time as well. But the town, thanks to its fire, police and ambulance service, as well as MLEC, quickly brought the problems under control. As we understand, the main power outage problem came from the feed line from Wayne County to Lewis County which had crashed leaving us with no power.
