Richland Raiders host Panthers

The Lewis County Middle School Panthers traveled to Giles County to face the Richland Raiders on Thursday, September 8th.

The Panthers came into the game riding a 3-game losing streak and wanting to end the slide against the Raiders. The Lewis County offense put points on the board first in the opening quarter as Kobe Feichtinger found a soft spot in the line on a 1-yard touchdown dive with just over two minutes to play in the opening 8 eight minutes. The conversion run failed, and the Panthers held a 6-0 lead. Early in the second quarter the Panther offense would strike again, this time with Gavin Coker punching it in from the two, but another failed conversion made it a 12-0 game. Lewis County would put together another scoring drive late in the first half, capped off by a 12-yard touchdown run by Shawn Lewis and another failed conversion that made it an 18-0 game with under a minute left in the first half. The Raiders would use every second of time remaining to get their first score of the game which came on a 19-yard run as time expired, but a failed conversion run made the halftime score 18-6. In the third quarter the Panthers would put together a drive and score at the midway point of the third, with D.J. Stewart scoring on an 11-yard run but the Panthers again failed to convert on the run and held a 24-6 lead. Richland would counter moments later, moving quickly into scoring position and finding a receiver on a big, 49-yard touchdown pass. The Raiders failed on their conversion and Lewis County led 24-12 as play moved on to the fourth quarter. The Panthers would tack on one final score early in the fourth as Stewart scored his second touchdown of the game, this time on a 6-yard run, and another failed conversion attempt made it 30-12, which would hold for the final with the Panthers taking the victory on the road.
