Single vehicle accident claims life of passenger

LOSS OF LIFE - A single vehicle accident Thursday, December 8, 2022 shortly after noon, resulted in two people being transported to separate hospitals and a third passing away at the crash site.

"A 2004 single cab Chevrolet pick-up driven by Jason E. Burns, 38, of Hohenwald, was travelling east on Napier Lake Road," according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Steve Karpati. "While negotiating a curve, Burns lost control and the vehicle began to yaw. The vehicle crossed center and struck a large tree in the passenger side door."

Burns was transported to Maury Regional for treatment. Middle seat passenger Jessie D. Skelton, 41, of Iron City, was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. He was treated and released. The right seat passenger was Micheal D. Barnes, 45, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lewis County Sheriff Deputies and Lewis County Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene. A Tennessee Highway Patrol Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT) was called to the location to work the accident.

Taylor's Wrecker Service removed the vehicle.
