The Lewis County Lady Panthers and Panthers stepped out of classification in a break from their District 10AA schedule as they traveled to Spring Hill to take on the District 8AAA Spring Hill Lady Raiders and Raiders on Monday, January 16.

In a rematch of a November 28 game in Hohenwald in which the Lady Raiders took down the Lady Panthers 81-49, Lewis County was looking for redemption and to build momentum for a return to district play later in the week.

The Lady Panthers and Lady Raiders matched each other point-for-point over most of the opening quarter as Desirae Warman scored eight first-quarter points and the Lady Raiders held a slim 15-14 lead at the end of the period.

While the pace slowed in the second, the teams continued with their back-and-forth play as Lewis County pulled to a tie at 24-24 before halftime with Kerrigan Reeves going 6-6 at the free throw line in the quarter.

The third quarter was the downturn for the Lady Panthers as they struggled to maintain possession and find the basket while Spring Hill picked up the tempo while outscoring Lewis County 21-5 to take a 45-29 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Raiders would continue to add to their lead down the stretch and handed the Lady Panthers a 58-40 loss.

Desirae Warman had 14 in the loss, Kerrigan Reeves added 10, Blayr Clayton and Gabii Ortiz each had 4, Ruth Jennings 3, Klayr Shepherd and Keira Halbrooks 2 each, and Jayden Moore 1.

The Raiders, who downed the Panthers in Hohenwald earlier in the season 78-49, used their transition game to build an early lead at 16-10 by the end of the first quarter.

The Panthers were able to cut into the Raider lead in the second quarter with five different players contributing on offense and a better defensive effort as Spring Hill took a 31-27 lead in at the half.

The Raiders came out of the halftime break hitting on all cylinders as the aggressive defense would lead to sprint-out transition baskets and they outscored the visitors 18-12 in the third to build a 49-29 lead as play moved to the fourth period.

In the fourth the Panthers were able to pull to within 14 but the Raider lead was just too much, and Spring Hill took the win handing the Panthers a 74-56 loss on the road.
