The Lewis County High School tennis teams traveled to Fairview on Monday, April 10th for matches against the Lady Yellow Jackets and Yellow Jackets.

In Girls singles action it was Lewis County’s Ruth playing as the number one seed against the Fairview number one. Ruth Jennings took the win in a close 8-5 match. Brooke Mason was the Lady Panther number two, and she dropped the matchup between the two seeds by a score of 8-4. Mary Halfacre played as the number three for Lewis County in the final girls pairing. Halfacre dropped an 8-0 decision to the Fairview number three. In the lone doubles match it was the duo of Ruth Jennings and Brooke Mason that took a 7-2 win.

The Lady Panthers finished 1-2 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles play.

In boys’ singles Bryson Clayburn played as the number one seed for the Panthers and fell behind early to the Fairview number one seed, ultimately dropping the match 8-1. Ethan Powers was the number two for Lewis County and was shut out 8-0 by the Yellow Jacket number two. In the three seed match, Lewis County sent Julian Jones to the court against the Fairview three, and Jones dropped an 8-2 decision. Jeremiah Sparks played as the number four for the Panthers and Sparks fell to his Fairview opponent by a score of 8-2. Gavin Carroll played as the Panther’s number five seed and fell in his matchup 8-2. Bryson Clayburn paired up with Ethan Powers in the first doubles match on the boys’ side. It was the first Fairview pairing that took the win in an 8-0 final. Julian Jones and Gavin Carroll were the other Lewis County pair in doubles play, and they lost their matchup 8-1.

The Panthers were 0-5 in singles play and 0-2 in doubles.

The Lewis County Panthers and Lady Panthers hosted the Hickman County Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs in tennis action on Tuesday, April 11th.

In girls’ singles Ruth Jennings played as the number one seed in the first girls’ match. In a tight match it was the Hickman County number one seed that broke serve and went on to take an 8-5 win. In the matchup of number 2 seeds Lewis County’s Brooke Mason dropped an 8-4 decision. Mary Halfacre was the Lady Panther number three seed in the third girls’ matchup, and Halfacre fell behind early and took the loss 8-3.

The Lady Panthers finished the meet 0-3.

Bryson Clyburn opened up boys’ singles action, playing as the number one seed for the Panthers. Clayburn broke service late and held on for an 8-6 win. Ethan Powers was the number two seed for Lewis County and fell behind midway through his match as he dropped the matchup of two seeds 8-5. Lewis County’s three seed Julian Jones fell behind early in his match and fell 8-2. Jeremiah Sparks was the number four seed for the Panthers and broke serve early in his pairing as he secured the lead and took an 8-3 victory. In the final boys’ singles match Lewis County’s Gavin Carroll, the number five seed, played a tight match but ultimately took the 8-5 loss. Bryson Clayburn and Ethan Powers played in the first doubles match and went back and forth with the Bulldogs top doubles pair. In a match that required extra points it was the Bulldog duo that took the win 9-7. In the second doubles match Julian Jones paired up with Gavin Carroll and took an 8-5 win.

The Panthers finished the day 2-3 in singles matches and 1-1 in doubles play.
