Series: One day at a time | Story 101

Well it is cool morning here in our little valley, there are a few clouds but the sun is peeking through, it is a beautiful spring morning.

The cats were hungry, they were up and waiting for breakfast this morning. They are now finished and they are watching birds eat their leftovers.

Bob has got the breakfast dishes washed and the kitchen clean. I am having my cup of coffee. The cows are grazing peacefully on the fresh green grass in the neighbors pasture across the driveway. I can hear the doves calling back and forth to each other. It sure is a peaceful morning.

We have been sitting out on our porch a lot lately, the weather has been so nice, not too cool and not too hot but summer is just around the corner. We sat out on the porch the other night and watched the lightning bugs, that was so nice there was a lot of them.

Looks like it is about time to start cutting some hay, we heard the old John Deere tractor and saw the neighbor and the boys cutting hay in the pasture across the creek. Those boys know what they are doing, their Pops has taught them how and now they can do it like their Pops does, They sure are good young men and I can depend on them if we ever need them, all we have to do is call on them and they will help us. Those boys are all grown up and are now young men but I still call them boys, they do not mind me calling them boys. I love them.

We were walking down by the creek the other day and there was a lot of small acorns on the trees. We checked on the blueberries and there is going to be a lot of them. The old apple tree in the yard has a lot of small apples on it, some have fallen off though, I hope bugs are not starting to get into them, we do not like to spray them with any kind of poisons.

Along by the creek bank we saw where the squirrels have been digging, I guess they are digging up what they buried there last fall when all the nuts and acorns were ripe and plentiful.

A lot of people are planting gardens this year, some gardeners say they are doing fair and some say they are not doing so good, but when the weather gets hot and stays hot the vegetables will really grow especially if they get watered in the evenings.

It has been a busy week for us, we got the yard mowed and some of the porches scrubbed. There is always a lot to do in the spring and early summertime.

My rose bushes are in full bloom, I think they have more roses on them than they ever have, they are not as tall as they normally are but they are loaded with roses. Some of my bushes did not come back very well from that bitter cold that we had over the winter and I have also notice some of the evergreen trees around here have died, normally that does not happen I think this is the first time I have seen cedar trees die over the winter but you can see them all around the county, they have turned brown.

We were out running errands and saw a lot of construction and fixing up going on, that is good to see. We also read on the front page of the Lewis County Herald good news about a chance that we may be getting a 24-hour emergency health care facility here in our area, we are glad to see that because as you start to get a little older you start to realize that you are not as indestructible as you once were when you were 18.

It looks like it is going to be a busy day ahead of us, but if it gets warm we can stop for a few minutes and take a break in the front porch rocking chairs and have a glass of my MaEvelyn’s sweet tea. Dr. Kamal we have a glass of tea with your name on it and also a rocking chair anytime you need a break.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless.
