Dr. Burney named LCHS Asssistant Principal

 

Lewis County Schools has announced Dr. Melissa Burney will serve as an Assistant Principal at Lewis County High School beginning in the 2023-2024 school year.

Dr. Burney has been employed with Lewis County High School for over twenty years. She began her career at Lewis County Schools as a high school English teacher in January of 2003, and since 2011 has served as the high school librarian and yearbook sponsor. Dr. Burney teaches English Composition, British Literature, and Young Adult Literature classes for the University of Martin-Parsons, part-time. She is also a Dual Enrollment instructor for high school junior and senior English Composition I and II students through Bethel University.

Dr. Burney graduated from The University of North Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts in English Education and a Master’s in English Education with Technology. She earned an E.d.S in Curriculum and Instruction/Educational Leadership from Middle Tennessee State University, a Library Science endorsement from The University of Memphis, and a Doctor of Arts in English Pedagogy with Murray State University.

Of the appointment, Dr. Burney states, “Our community is everything, and I truly believe that I can be a strong support system for LCHS while also offering ways to continue our academic success. I would personally like to thank Dr. McAbee, Mr. Clark, and the Board of Education for the support, trust, and guidance going into this upcoming school year. I have been blessed with tremendous coworkers and previous administrators that have mentored and paved the way so that I may play a small role in serving the students, teacher, parents, and families in Lewis County.”

Dr. Burney has been married to her husband, Jason, for 24 years. They have one daughter, Anna, who will be a ninth grader at LCHS this fall.
