One Day at a Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 107

Well it is a warm and humid morning here in our little valley. There is a light breeze blowing. I am sitting on the front porch, I really like sitting here in the font porch swing.

The cats ate their breakfast and then they came and sat with me for a few minutes and now they are gone to their cool places for the day, they are smart cats they now how to stay cool on hot days.

We still miss our Kitty Tom, he has been gone since February, he left on Valentines day morning and then later that morning we heard someone shoot a gun, he lived here for years, I find myself looking at the window where he always sat, we still wish that somehow he would just come up. Oh well the good Lord knows all things.

The hummingbirds around here are really busy, Bobby put up some more feeders in the trees and there have been several hummingbirds come to eat at the feeders.

The neighbor’s cows are grazing in their pasture, the grass is still green even though we have not had much rain over the last month. Our creek is dry with no water in it at all, the creek bank must be at least six feet deep and it has been out before, but even with the few rains that we have had it is still dry.

The blueberries are gone but we sure enjoyed them. There still is apples on the old apple tree in the yard, but most of them have worms in them so they have not been good. I did get a few good apples to make pies with later.

I am looking forward to Fall and cooler weather, I can not remember having this kind of heat for so long. It is really too hot and humid to be working outside, but some people have to work outside. This hot weather sure has been hard on our electric bills, I heard and read that the electric bills would be going up during the summer, I am just praying that we do not have any outages.

We have gotten spoiled to these air conditioners, how did we make it growing up without them? When we were little we did not even have a fan and we did not know what air conditioning was, we all slept with our windows open and we made it just fine, now a days your house would be full of bugs if you left your windows open at night.

When we were young we would get up early in the mornings and get our cooking done and get all of our outside work done before it got hot. We did not have TV’s, computers and phones to take up a lot of our time, when I think back to those times it almost seems like a dream.

It again looks like we may be going to get a little storm, I hear the thunder in the distance and the wind is getting up, it sure is nice here on the front porch. Bob has finished the breakfast dishes and the kitchen is clean, he has brought his coffee and has come out here to sit with me.

One of the cats has came back up and gotten up in the swing with me, she is the one that is spoiled worse than the other two, but Bob has got all of them spoiled. She hears the thunder but it does not seem to bother her, I guess she knows that she could go and hide in a flash if she wanted too.

I have got a busy day ahead, I will be working inside today, there is always a lot of house work to do. Maybe today we will get a long good slow rain.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless.
