Catherine Jane Davis

Catherine Jane (Cothran) Davis passed from this earthly life on August 10, 2023, at home with her loving family by her side. She was born on November 16, 1944, in Columbia, to the late Boyd and Estes (Harlow) Cothran. She was married to Wayne Davis in 1964 and they had two sons together: Jeff (Becky) Davis and the late Mike (Melanie) Davis, who passed in 2013 from cancer at the age of 44.

Ms. Davis was a schoolteacher in Lewis County for 34 years. Thirty-three of those years were spent teaching Kindergarten and one year was spent as a 4th grade teacher. She retired in 2007 after dedicating 34 years of service to the Lewis County School System and its students. She was an honored member of the Tennessee Retired Teacher Association, Tennessee Education Association, National Education Association and Tennessee Coordinated Retirement System.

She wrote a book in 1986 about the alphabet, "Hooray for Letters" and a poem entitled "Why, Why, Why, Screams the Letters". In 1986, she was voted teacher of the year in K-4, she then competed and won teacher of the year across 13 southeastern counties.

She was also selected as Grand Marshal in 1986. Ms. Davis was a member of the United Methodist Church. She faithfully worshipped at, and called Oak Grove home for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Boyd and Estes (Harlow) Cothran; husband, Wayne Davis; son, Mike Davis; daughter-in-law, Melanie Davis; brother-in-law, Wayne Hickman; granddaughter, Olivia Davis; great-granddaughter, Zoey Davis; great-granddaughter, Hazlee Pulley and special family friend, Ronald "Hamburger" Johnson.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Jeff (Becky) Davis; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jonathon) Murphy, Allison (Daran) Pulley, Emily (Andrew) Lawson and Aaron Davis; great-grandchildren, Landon Murphy, Skylar Murphy, Ledger Murphy, Asher Murphy, Myles Davis, Zeldon Davis, Charlie Chapin, Owen Lawson, Mabry Pulley, Riley Chapin and Lilly Lawson; sister, Dorothy Ann Hickman; brother, Johnny Cothran; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 13, 2023, in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home Hohenwald, with Bro. Thomas Vann, John Rawdon, Rex Reed and Austin Carroll officiating. Burial followed in Davis-Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Ms. Davis asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
