Adam Turtle, 82, a dedicated gardener, passionate reader, and lover of all things bamboo, was born on June 29, 1941, in Tucson, Arizona. He passed away on October 5, 2023, in Summertown, leaving behind a profound legacy of creativity, intelligence, and passion.

Born into the family of Adam and Virginia Breckenridge, Adam was the beloved brother of John, Kati, and Helen Breckenridge. Adam carried his values into his own family, cherishing his loving wife, Susanne Turtle, and his son, Aaron Maggio, with the same love for nature and curiosity for the unknown.

Adam's work history was as varied and rich as his interests. He co-owned Our Bamboo Nursery, a wholesale, and co-directed Earth Advocates Research Farm dedicated to expanding the food base in the Mid-South In addition to his business pursuits, Adam also served in the military.

Throughout his life, Adam was deeply involved in numerous associations that reflected his love for nature and his unique interests. He was an active member of the American Bamboo Society, a group that shared his fascination with this versatile plant. Because of Adam's passion for learning and research, he was accepted as a Fellow of the Linnean Society, a prestigious group dedicated to the study and appreciation of natural history.

Adam's passion for gardening was not just a hobby, but a way of life. He loved working with bamboo, a testament to his creativity and imagination. His garden was his sanctuary, a place where he could experiment with different plant species and create a beautiful, living work of art. His love for reading was equally consuming. He was an avid reader, always on the hunt for new information and insights, particularly about lesser-known plant species for the middle south.

Adam's intelligence was evident in every aspect of his life. He had a natural curiosity that led him to explore and understand the world around him. His creativity was boundless, as seen in his innovative gardening techniques and his ability to transform simple bamboo into beautiful creations. Above all, Adam was passionate. Whether it was his love for his family, his dedication to his work, or his enthusiasm for his hobbies, Adam lived every moment of his life with passion and joy.

Though he is no longer with us, Adam's love for nature, his creativity, and his passion for life will continue to inspire all those who knew him. His memory will live on in the beautiful garden he cultivated, the knowledge he shared, and the love he gave to his family and friends. Adam Turtle was a remarkable man, and he will be deeply missed.
